Reading eBooks Textbooks
With Nook Simple Touch

The Amazon Kindle may have established its mark as a pioneering gadget for reading
eBooks and textbooks. However, Barnes & Noble has also introduced the more petite Nook Simple Touch which is set to take a huge portion of the pie that Kindle used to enjoy alone. Today, only Nook is the other most recognizable name when it comes to
eBook reading. The Barnes & Noble Nook Simple Touch was just released in November 2011 and comes at a very low price of only $99.
The Features
The Nook Simple Touch has been fully redesigned although it still keeps some features that users enjoyed from the first Nook. The new device is sleeker, has an improved LCD screen and has better navigational tools and capabilities. The gadget also introduces the new infrared touch technology called Neonode's Zeforce which makes it easier for users to gain access and navigate. Wi-Fi connectivity is also available. The new model is smaller and very easy to handle and hold.
The new Nook weighs a mere 0.47 pounds, which is 35% lighter than the Nook First Edition. It is also a bit lighter compared to the Kindle Keyboard. The new design is more compact, being 6% thinner and over 1 inch shorter than the original. The Nook Simple Touch measures 6.5 x 5.0 x 0.47 inches only.
Physical Traits
Many users find that the B&N Nook Simple Touch is best enjoyed when reading
eBooks and textbooks while being held in one hand. This is great for reading at different places. You can balance the device properly using one or two hands. It is also very easy to navigate and hold the gadget via the base bezel. The rest of your fingers can hold the back comfortably. The physical appearance of the device is also very attractive. The front and back portion has a textured rubber finish so it doesn't slip off your hands easily. There's also a built-in grip on the backplate.
Navigating is generally done on the display because of the new touchscreen capabilities. However, some users find that the navigation buttons seem easy to push in. Pushing your fingers in might also cause bleeds on the edge of the screen. The casing is gray and the display measures 6 inches with an 800 x 600 resolution. The device operates on the Android 2.1 OS. There's no web browser and email. Overall, it is still one of the best gadgets you can find for reading
eBooks and textbooks at $99.
