How the Scrappage Scheme Made Me Drive a Great Car

August 30th, 2009

I am now 24 years old and have literally been driving old cars for almost a decade, they are forever causing me problems, either breaking down in the road or simply shaking. In all honesty I have probably become one of the worst RAC customers, I am constantly calling them to help me out.

i have been remaining with old bangers strictly because of a single cause. i simply cannot afford to purchase a fresh one, i know all my friends get their cars on finance, but that is just something I do not desire to do. I have never taken out a loan or own any credits card as I am so afraid to get myself into debt.

But things seemed to be looking a lot better when the government and vehicle manufacturers introduced a brand new scrappage scheme, where they would give you 2k off of a new car if you handed in your old one. As soon as the scheme went live I visited my local garage to see what they could offer me, I had been saving up my money and funds for a long time and because of the scheme I finally had enough to get myself a decent vehicle.

I chose to get a ford focus; I signed all the necessary paper work and handed my keys over. The owner then indicated that I was free to drive away. My drive back home was absolutely amazing; it honestly felt like the automobile was hovering over the route as i couldnt feel any bumps or anything.

The scrappage scheme has literally changed my life and I recommend it to anyone that is looking to purchase new cars.

BMW Selling Hybrids

August 13th, 2009

German Engineering Brilliance and Magnificence fitted with Revolutionary Hybrid Technology, a mixture of Style and Performance

Joining the quantity of Car manufacturers that have been troubled for the increasing demand for environment friendly autos, German vehicle producing giant BMW has announced that they also would soon be producing and selling Hybrid autos. In the next 4 years, BMW will provide its own version of the outstanding and preferred hybrid car.

Knowing the various inventions and excellent qualities BMW has contributed to the motor world, we will be able to be certain this would be another automotive engineering discovery that would set the par others would follow.

BMW said that their Hybrid car would run on both Hydrogen and petroleum and this would be first infused in the seven series BMW. Already, BMW has some of these cars test driven in different states. Analysts and engineers are staging some tests and are getting feedbacks to perfect their first hybrid car release. BMW doesn’t want to release just a beautiful looking car, they desire one which may be actually environment friendly as well as performing beautifully.

Deviating from the common fuel cells used by other hybrid auto makers, BMW selected using hydrogen-fuel combined with an internal combustion engine. This led to more research and development required due to the demand of the engine to keep the hydrogen in liquid form, and this poses as a problem in keeping them cold enough to do just that. If the engine becomes too hot, the hydrogen may evaporate requiring frequent fill ups. Another quandary is keeping the hydrogen from evaporating while in transit to the engine. But BMW has declared that it has found the answer to this problem.

BMW sees hydrogen as the solution, but it would take about 2 more decades before a vehicle can really be run by hydrogen only. But they are positive this is extremely achievable.

BMW says that for the past 30 years, they have been developing technology that could just lead to the 1st ever pure hydrogen automobile. They already have a car that is being powered by water, a car that emits water vapor at the tailpipe, and are to retrieve hydrogen from sunlight.

BMW has been concentrating on Hydrogen as an extreme power source for vehicles as it is the best solution to the ever-worsening emissions from automobiles that contributes to environmental pollution. The reason being because hydrogen doesn’t have dangerous emissions, it poses no harm to the atmosphere, it does not exhaust natural resources, as it can be take from many reusable sources. This is BMW’s solution, powering vehicles with hydrogen produced from water through the application of solar energy. This advancement in technology is evident with the BMW 750hl production automobile showcased at the Expo two thousand. Along with some of its partners, BMW could be behind in the mass production of Hybrid autos, but they are the forefront in Hybrid technology.

Soon enough, we intend to all be the beneficiaries of all these developments and innovations. Not merely will we able to save up on gas cash, we will also be saving the environment. Owning a Hybrid car doesn’t have to mean riding in cramped autos with low engine power. With the showcasing of the BMW hybrid auto in the future, you get class, power, class and style while helping clean up our air.

Is the BMW M Just Another Sports Car

August 10th, 2009

What’s a sports car? There have recently been a few personal definitions to what a sports auto sounds to them. However, for the majority, a sports vehicle is a BMW.

BMW now adds up one more product to their still growing family of vehicles. And at this time, the new addition is the 2006 BMW M. It is a dragster. And it just goes to show that BMW meant business for this vehicle. Its past shows a colourful practice as well as an in-depth research before it was actually constructed. Just go through its stretched engine compartment, its long wheelbase, its short tail, and its 2 low set of seats that all in all provides a high powered and terribly obsessed driving experience, and one would be ready to picture that, indeed, BMW is yet on the road, again, to success.

What are the features of the BMW M roadster? Well, for power, it’s got a front engine and a rear wheel drive system. Its engine is a DOHC in line engine with twenty-four valves. It is an iron block with an aluminum head. It can displace 192 cubic inches or some 3152 cc. It also has the capacity to provide some 240 bhp at 6000 revs per minute. Aside form that, it also has a five speed manual transmission. The suspension is provided in two options. The 1st is the independent front suspension. It has damper struts, lower control arms, coil springs, and an anti-roll bar. As per the other one, it is an independent rear suspension with dampers, semi-trailing arms, coil springs, and anti-roll bars.

How large is the BMW M? It measures some 96.8 inches for its wheelbase. Its rear is 55.0 inches. It has a curb weight of 3084 pounds, plus a fuel capacity of 13.5 gallons. If you want to put in some load, you can always do so for it’s got a meager cargo capacity of 5.1 cubic feet.

The steering of this racer is a rack and pinion one with variable proportion and is variable power helped. It has a turning circle of 34.1 feet. The brakes are vented discs for the front and the rear. There’s also the rear. There is also the anti lock braking system. Buy Used Car to Save Money

August 10th, 2009

If you are buying a second hand auto, you probably want to save some cash. This implies that you need to prioritize what is most important to you in a car. This newsletter will help you assess your wishes and your wants, so that you can find an auto that suits you perfectly.

Cost

Look at the pricetag of a car. There is no point in window shopping at fully-loaded $40,000 trucks if you will only be in a position to afford a $4,000 wagon in the 1st place. When you’re establishing your financial position for your car, be sure to account for how much the insurance will probably be, how much gas you’ll be spending (although this figure does change, it is best to go in having at least a concept ), and regular maintenance. To budget for upkeep, you’ll need guess the expenses of 4 oil changes a year, plus some extra money just in in case. Used cars are, well, used: they aren’t new are often not under warranty. If you would like a warranty, consider buying a second hand car from the dealership, who can frequently offer warranties even on used vehicles.

Suitability

What kind of driving do you do? You probably don’t need a four-wheel drive behemoth of an SUV if you do often town driving. Conversely, if you live on a gravel road, you may feel more cosy driving in winter if you’ve got something bigger than a neon. For most drivers, the way that you drive a vehicle will mean that you are open to many options. However, if this is a limiting factor, it’s necessary to take into consideration.

If you are a commuter, then you’ll have to take other things under consideration. You may not want to purchase an automobile with a car with a very high mileage, because you’ll be adding the miles to that odometer. You might want to find a car that has comfy seats to make your ride go better. Things that could be less important, like the stereo, become much more vital when you spend a large amount of time in your car each day.

Look

Some folks would rather have an automobile that looks good or celebrated. It’s alright to admit that you are one of those people. for $3,500 you could be able to buy a 6 year old Honda civic; this same money could also buy you a much older BMW. If you value appearances, don’t lie to oneself when You would like to get an automobile that you are going to love, and there is no point taking a look at Ford Focuses if the single thing that may spark your pleasure is a Ford Mustang.

Load

How many of us do you usually travel with? What’s the most number of folks who you have taken in your present automobile at once? If you do not already have a vehicle, the amount of people you will have with you on a constant basis. If you only drive around 7 people during the hockey competition yearly, you can probably skip buying a minivan. However, if you routinely drive three people around, it might be a pain to get a 2 door vehicle. For van drivers, you will need to consider the amount of load that you generally put in the back of your van to help evaluate your purchase.

Your Loan

Not only do you wanting to get the right vehicle, you need to get the right auto loan. It is wiser to have your financing lined up before you go to a dealership. You can set up used vehicle loans at any bank: but one frequently overlooked kind of used vehicle loan is to go to a credit union, where you can sometimes get lower interest than at a major bank. For more information on loans, ( and we will not even try and sell you a loan!) visit www.theguideto-carloans.com.

In the End

You will be the one driving. Make the choices based on your wishes and what you’re feeling is right. Though it is great to get plenty of recommendation ( and often it helps to take somebody savvy about mechanics with you to test out the car ), considering these facts will help make you capable of choosing the right car.

Check Out the BMW 330i Specs

August 10th, 2009

I should reveal up front that I own an older 3-series BMW, so I am quite aware of its abilities and flaws. And as many different types of autos that I drive, I am always happy to revisit my baby. But when I got behind the wheel of the new 330i (Edmunds pricing at $39,184 ) I could tell that this machine was a pointy step up in performance inside 1 / 4 mile.

At my first ride in the driver’s seat, I could not get over the ergonomics of the wheel. Each vehicle has one, and I have handled some surprising ones, but my grip has never felt more at home than with this 330i. (Unfortunately, it wasn’t a heated steering while like the 7-series, and it was sort of cold outside.) Then BMW mates this steering wheel with very precise steering for a sedan-level car.

The German automobiles avoid that Yank makers’ design, instead they offer a slower launch, but smoother, linear acceleration. And the silky 6-cylinder engine is very conspicuous with a manual transmission in this vehicle. BMW eventually added a 6th gear for the stick shift, and I assert it is overdue. My old one has 50,000 miles and the gearing still makes me look for 6th when I run up thru the gears – but sadly there are only five available. Since the 330i generates 255 hp, much more than I am used to for daily driving, I could have to upgrade my radar detector.

Yes, the car basics are spectacular – engine, ride, steering (even the steering wheel), but the electronics controls are a laughable dissatisfaction. Any one that has driven this vehicle has a tale about turning on the turn signals from one side to the other and back again, in a vain attempt to turn them off. I know people in the area gave me a wider berth, thinking I was a confused and lost driver. The turning signal lever doesn’t ‘click’ into place as the remainder of the world has come to frequently expect turn signals to function. With the 330i, you tap the signal, for example for passing, and it immediately flashes three times and then turns off. But you can hold the lever a little longer, and you get your normal-action from the turn signal. But on a soft turn, where the signal does not turn off, you have to flick it the other way to turn it off. But in the hurry of the moment, if it is more than a flick, then you simply indicated from your signals that you are turning in the wrong way. And this goes back & forth once in a while till you get accustomed to it.

Other electronic oddities are the Navigation/Radio controls. There are many models of autos where you can intuitively muddle your way to what you want to get done. I couldn’t generate that sort of luck whilst I was driving. My passenger had to repeatedly go through the owners’ manual that failed to offer much guidance to get the map or radio station how we wanted. And we did not even have the added i-drive option that so many customers complain about. I am not able to explain the miss-timing of the automated windshield wipers. I love that Jaguar has this feature down pat, but the 330i wipers were always going too quickly or too slow ; so kept having to manually adjust the automated windshield wipers. An electronic improvement over the prior 3-series model is the traction control system. The old model would cut the power to the wheels in a glaring fashion, while this model is a seamless experience of artificially superior driving skill.

So whilst the driving experience is a quantum level improvement over the last generation change at BMW, their electronics package gives me some hesitation in buying one of these machines. In bumper to bumper traffic, the electronic gadgetry of the 330i becomes more annoying; and only on curvy roads without traffic or law enforcement can you experience the thrill of what this car can offer.

BMW About to Outsell Mercedes

August 10th, 2009

It is a close race, one that likely won’t result in deep price cutting to move models, but is certain however to be on the minds of operatives employed by two automakers until the clock strikes midnight for the final time this year. What the race is all about is this : the evergreen sales battle between 2 German automakers, BMW and Mercedes, with BMW predicted to pass Mercedes in world sales totals for 2005. The ramifications are robust for each automaker and will set the tone for the way each company produces and markets cars from 2006 forward.

Mercedes finishing second to BMW isn’t a snug taste for DaimlerChrysler, parent of Mercedes and now owner of The Chrysler Group, maker of Jeeps, Dodges, and Chryslers. Only Volkswagen sells more autos than either make, but when it comes to a predominately luxury line up Mercedes and BMW battle alone amongst German makes with Audi a distant third.

Unlike American automakers, Mercedes is not very likely to engage in deep price cuts to draw in shoppers and “steal” sales that they might have made in 2006 for 2005 to prevent BMW. Still, buyers of Mercedes automobiles should find an even friendlier showroom in which to buy when they negotiate the price on their “C”, “E”, or “M” Classes of vehicles.

So, precisely what has led to the shift in sales? Well, revealed reports indicate that Mercedes sales continue to rise, but slowly. On the other hand, BMW sales growth are in the double digit category which is what has pushed BMW before Mercedes so far this year. Oddly, it isn’t the posh vehicles in each automakers’ fold that is spelling the difference. Unknown to several Yankees, both BMW and Mercedes sell autos that are smaller and less opulent than the cars that appear in the states. Cars that compete exactly against Volkswagen’s Golf and offerings from GM, Ford, many Jap automakers, and others.

Yes, it’s correct. Not all BMW or Mercedes models are high end cars. Unlike in the USA where a Cadillac is totally a luxury automobile, both German brands produce automobiles for the rank and file driver too. It is these sorts of automobiles that have fueled both automakers growth and is likely behind BMW jumping ahead of Mercedes.

To counter BMW’s surge, Mercedes does have an ace up its sleeve : the introduction of one or 2 smaller lines of automobiles to the U.S. Market by 2007. If you have not figured it out yet, Mercedes has “A” and “B” Class cars that are smaller and less costly than the current “baby” Mercedes, what we call the “C” Class. Mercedes hopes the US market is prepared for less dear vehicles sporting the venerable Mercedes name and that these sales will propel Mercedes back into the lead.

Of course, what’s good for Mercedes is good for Mercedes is good for BMW as the automaker explores bringing its “1″ and “2″ series autos to the US to compete for sales. Both lines of cars are positioned against Mercedes “A” and “B” class automobiles and are the same autos that have bumped BMW’s sales figures up.

Now if only Mercedes would consider importing it’s SMART car to the US market.

Those who stayed the course in the Mille Miglia proved not only their competitiveness in motor sports but also their automotive engineering prowess.

Between 1927 and 1957, the Mille Miglia was staged 24 times in northern Italy. It was a spectacular event for many thousands of motor sport fans and a perfect stage for race drivers such as Tazio Nuvolari, Stirling Moss, Rudolf Caracciola, Juan Manuel Fangio and Fritz Huschke von Hanstein. But the Mille Miglia was also a crucial trial of strength for car manufacturers. The legendary event celebrated its revival in 1977 and, as a reliability trial for historic vehicles, has kept alive the spirit of classic car racing ever since. In 1925 four young men from Brescia, as wealthy as they were enthusiastic about motor racing, had resolved to turn their home town into a hub of motor sports. Two years later they saw their plans come to fruition. Henceforth, the start and finish line in Brescia would take on a carnival atmosphere, with the drivers and their automobiles enthusiastically celebrated by the numerous spectators who flocked there.

Each year racing fever spread throughout the land and not only because the cars that dominated the event were initially of Italian manufacture.

With classic car enthusiasts celebrated its revival in 1977 and, as a reliability trial for historic vehicles, has kept alive the spirit of classic car racing ever since. Nowhere other than between Brescia and Rome is the history of motor sport and automotive engineering celebrated so intensely and impressively. The Mille Miglia storica pays homage to the design engineers and their creations, which continue to inspire professionals and aficionados to this day.
