Selling eBooks On Amazon
If you think Amazon is just a place for hard copies of books, think
again. It's also a place where you can sell your eBooks, share your
ideas, earn profits and gain a following. Getting your eBook published
is a great online business because there's very little investment
required to produce and sell it. You can gain as much as 90% profit or
even more, a much better figure than the 5% to 25% profit that most
publishing houses would probably offer you. And where's a better place
to do that than with Amazon?
Amazon's eBook Connection
Selling eBooks on
Amazon is a part of their inventory. You will find eBooks in the format
of Mobipocket on the Amazon. Try
going to their site and clicking on the link to eBooks and you will find
yourself linked to another site. That site is Mobipocket. If you're
a little bit confused and scared that you just got duped or some
sophisticated program has invaded your PC or Mac, don’t worry. There's a
perfect explanation why you're being introduced to Mobipocket.com.
Mobipocket.com is a site based in France that Amazon was able to acquire
in 2005. In the past, eBook authors and publishers had to get an
account with Lightning Source just to be able to list their eBooks with
Amazon. These days, they simply just have to deal with Mobipocket. Their
new subsidiary is the one that will be managing all eBooks from here on
and this is where you, whether as an author or publisher, will be
listing your eBooks to sell them.
Becoming An eBook Seller On Amazon
Now that you know
Mobipocket.com is a legitimate website with legitimate
ends, you may begin your contact with them in order to facilitate the
process of finally selling eBooks on Amazon. First, send the company an email
addressed to digital rights Amazon with your contact information,
including your name, professional title, business address, e-mail
address and contact number.
Next, indicate if you're working with a publishing company and if you
are, include the complete name of the firm you are currently working
with. You must then provide a list of the title or titles of the eBooks
that you are going to sell. You must also provide their corresponding
ISBN numbers. Also indicate whether or not you own the right to sell the
books using a digital format.
Registering With Amazon Mobipocket
At this point, you can either wait for an e-mail from Amazon with an
instruction on how to register for a publisher account with their
subsidiary Mobipocket, or you can actively register for that account
yourself.
Go to
www.mobipocket.com and click on the link on the home page to apply
as a publisher. You'll find Amazon's publisher agreement on the site
which you will have to read in order to familiarize yourself with what
the terms are, what you will be required to do and what you can expect
from Amazon.
If the agreement satisfies you, you can then print it, affix your
signature and fax the document to Mobipocket at 33-14-825-9007. If
you are not living in France, that's an overseas fax number you have to
use and as of now, you don't have any other choice. Amazon does not
allow you to send the publisher's agreement through e-mail.
After Mobipocket has received the signed agreement, they will be sending
you an e-mail message with information about your account login and
password. You can then go to Mobipocket's website and manage your very
own publisher account. This is where you can upload your eBooks and
indicate your retail price.
Mobipocket has its own format for eBooks which you will have to use in
order to convert your document. You can download this software for free
from their site.
