Sony PRS-650 Reader Touch Features Aluminum Chassis

Sony eBooks: PRS-650 Reader Touch Review

Sony has established itself as one of the biggest contenders in the eBook reader market. The Sony PRS-650 Reader Touch is one of the companies latest products and is set to take a huge chunk of the current eBook reading population. By far, this is the best eBook reader Sony has released.

Improvements Made

Sony has managed to fix the screen and touch capabilities caused by the incompatibilities of e-ink and touch screen. The gadget features a screen measuring 6 inches with a resolution of 600 x 800. Although the screen is generally the same as the first Sony Reader, the quality has significantly improved since then.

The Sony PRS-650 Reader Touch features an aluminum chassis that provides solidity to the gadget without excess weight. Everything measures only 215 grams. The chassis measures 119 x 168 x 10 mm only, which is quite slim and sleek. The buttons are already along the bezel, making it highly convenient and stylish. Turning the product on through accidentally pressing is almost impossible. In front, you will find only 4 buttons: forward, back, option and zoom. At the base of the product is a 3.5 mm jack, micro USB port and volume control. There's also a power button at the top together with a couple of memory slots for Memory Stick and SD. The Reader Touch also includes a stylus.

More Features

Once you turn on the Sony PRS-650 Reader Touch, it takes about 10 seconds to fully load all the available eBooks. Most users like the menu screen. Some noticeable changes include the E Ink Pearl, featuring sharper text and images. The screen also refreshes faster and features greyscale in 16 levels. You will find the different categories on the menu such as the periodicals, book library, notes and other collections of books purchased in the past.

One of the best features of the Sony PRS-650 Reader Touch is allowing users to create notes from the available books. Users can circle, scribble and underline on the eBooks as they read. Double tapping the words can also show the definition for faster and more meaningful reading sessions. The new screen resolution is also much better, with words clearer than before. The real home button will bring you back to the menu screen. All other functions are possible via the touch screen. There are small sensors at the top and base of the screen that lets the gadget know if a finger is navigating.
